geography

Postřekov is located eight kilometers south of Poběžovice and eleven kilometers east of Domažlice at the foot of the Upper Palatinate Forest . The Mlýnecký potok (German: Linzer Bach) flows through Postřekov, the headwaters of which are located about three kilometers further northeast on the eastern slopes of the Upper Palatinate Forest near Valtířov (German: Waltersgrün), and about three kilometers further west near Pařezov (German: Parisau) flows into the Černy potok (German: source to Parisau: Chodenschlosser Bach, Parisau to its confluence with the Radbuza : Schwarzbach).

The Mlýnecký potok separates the district Mlýnec (German: Linz) on its northern bank from the district Postřekov on its southern bank. Until 1946 Mlýnec was an independent village, half of which belonged to Pivoň and the other half to Poběžovice . Mlýnec was mostly inhabited by Germans. The Mlýnecký potok formed the border between the area more inhabited by Germans on its north side and the area more inhabited by Czechs on its south side until 1946. Accordingly, Postřekov on the southern bank of the Mlýnecký potok was mostly inhabited by Czechs.

At Postřekov there is serpentine accompanied by blasting stone and green slate , interspersed with asbestos cord and chrome iron grains .

To the southeast of Postřekov is an almost 100 hectare nature reserve, Postřekovské rybníky, with more than 20 small ponds, wet meadows, rare plants and animals.

history

Postřekov is one of the oldest Chod villages. It was first mentioned in writing in 1225 and has been continuously inhabited by Chodians from its foundation to this day and has always been Czech. As a result, the original character of the Chodians, which is characterized by unconventionality and indomitable courage, has been preserved in Postřekov to this day. The Chods were settled by the Bohemian kings as border guards on the eastern slope of the Upper Palatinate Forest . They enjoyed numerous privileges, they were free, were allowed to carry weapons, had their own coat of arms, and did not have to do any labor or pay any taxes.

When the Chodenland fell to the Schwanbergers at the end of the 15th century , and then to the Lamminger in the 17th century , the nobles tried to treat the Chodians like normal serfs and to force them into labor ( robots ) and taxes. The Choden put up a tough resistance. When Wolf Maximilian Laminger von Albenreuth , known as Lomikar, tried with particular brutality to break the Chodian resistance in the middle of the 17th century , the Chod uprising began under the leadership of Jan Sladký Kozina . The people of Postřekov were among the most energetic fighters in this uprising, which smoldered and broke out again and again until the peasants were freed from hereditary servitude and serfdom in the middle of the 19th century .

It is characteristic not only for the residents of Postřekov, but for the whole Chodic community that, despite constant and bloody defeats in the struggle for their rights since the 15th century, they never gave up this struggle and persisted in it.

In 1890 Postřekov had 69 houses and 447 inhabitants.

In 1939 Nimvorgut was incorporated . At the end of April 1945 at the end of the Second World War , some SS men buried themselves in the woods behind Postřekov near the village of Otov (Wottawa). Some young men from Postřekov went there to drive away the SS men, but were all shot or tortured to death by the better armed SS men - according to the Czech version. In the local history of Linz, today Mlýnec , this incident is presented differently. According to this, six young Czechs received weapons from the Americans in Linz on May 4, in order to disarm some dispersed German soldiers in Wottawa; these were not SS soldiers, but scattered Wehrmacht soldiers who had been waiting for an American emissary. The chronicle continues: "The consequence of this carelessness was the death of six young boys from Possigkau, who believed that they would still earn their laurels at the end of the war." A memorial with the names of the six dead at the Otov mill commemorates the event.

Today (2013) there are two taverns, a school, a kindergarten, a public library and a post office in Postřekov.
