Adolphe (Aizik) Féder (born July 16, 1886 in Odessa , † February 1943 in Auschwitz concentration camp , Russian Адольф (Айзик) Федер) was a French painter of Fauvism .

Féder was born into a merchant family. In his youth he became a member of the General Jewish Workers' Union of Lithuania, Poland and Russia . At the age of 19 he came to Berlin , where he attended the Academy of Arts , then to Geneva , where he studied at the Art Academy. He continued his studies in Paris from 1908 and attended the Académie Julian there . He also learned privately in Henri Matisse's studio . He was often a guest at the Café de la Rotonde , where he met Othon Friesz , Amedeo Modigliani and Jacques Lipchitz . He collected African, Ethiopian and naive works of art. From 1912 he showed his works at the Paris Autumn Salon .

In 1923 he began to publish his drawings in the daily newspaper Le Monde . He also illustrated works by Alphonse Daudet , Joseph Kessel and Arthur Rimbaud . He received the poet Vladimir Vladimirovich Mayakovsky in Paris . With Michail Fjodorowitsch Larionow and Ossip Zadkine he was one of the active members of the Paris Russian Artists Society.

In his works, influences of Fauvism and later also of Cubism are noticeable.

He often visited the south of France and Spain to paint landscapes there. In 1926 he visited Palestine and stayed there for several months. The French writer Gustave Kahn dedicated a monograph to his pictures around 1929.

After the outbreak of the Second World War , instead of fleeing with his friend, the sculptor Jakob Lutschanski, he stayed in Paris and joined the Resistance . Feder was arrested on June 4, 1942, interned in the Cherche-Midi prison in Paris , then taken to the Drancy assembly camp and, on February 13, 1943, taken in convoy No. 48 to Auschwitz , where he was probably murdered immediately upon arrival.
