Okres Plzeň-město ( German : District Pilsen-Stadt ) is a district and former administrative unit in the Plzeňský kraj in the Czech Republic . It is the smallest district but also the one with the highest population density in Plzeňský kraj. 181,600 inhabitants live in an area of ​​261.46 km². The majority of the area forms the city of Pilsen with a population of around 92%.

Until December 31, 2006, the city of Pilsen was the only place in the district. On January 1, 2007 the district around the municipalities Dýšina , Chrást u Plzně and Kyšice from the Okres Plzeň-sever , the city Starý Plzenec and the municipalities Chválenice , Letkov , Lhůta , Losiná , Mokrouše , Nezbavětice , Nezvěstice , Šťáhlavick , Štý Borekovy and Tymákov from the Okres Plzeň-jih expanded.

economy

It is a highly industrialized and urbanized area. The most important industries are mechanical engineering , electrical engineering and the brewery and spirits industry. The largest employers include: Škoda , Matsushita Television Central Europe, Panasonic, Siemens and the Plzeňský Prazdroj brewery . Agriculture hardly plays a role in the district in contrast to the 4,000 construction companies and 14,000 trading companies. Unemployment is 7.4%. In 2001 there were 77,000 visitors in the district, 42,000 of them foreigners who stayed for about 3.2 days.
