Chrást (German Chrast ) is a municipality in the Czech Republic . It is located twelve kilometers northeast of the city center of Plzeň and belongs to the Okres Plzeň-město .

geography

Chrást is located at the western foot of the Brdská vrchovina between the Berounka and Klabava rivers , which merge north of the village. The distance to the Dálnice 5 motorway is five kilometers to the south. Chrást lies on the railway line Praha – Plzeň (towards Plzeň since the opening of the Ejpovice tunnel ), from which the branch line to Radnice branches off. There are three train stations in Chrást. The Chrást u Plzně station belonging to the main line is located in Dolní Chrást on the southern periphery. The Chrást u Plzně obec station in the center of the Radnica Railway and the Chrást u Plzně zastávka stop in the northeast in front of the Klabava Bridge . The village is on the edge of the Horní Berounka Nature Park.

Neighboring towns are Nadryby , Telín, Sedlecko and Na Zastávky in the northeast, Smědčice and Bušovice in the east, Nová Huť in the southeast, Dýšina in the south, Újezd, Bukovec, Chlumek and Bílá Hora in the southwest, Druztová in the west and Dolany and Habrová in the northwest.

history

The first written mention of the village was made in 1242 in a document by Wenceslas I for Adam von Chrást, who had inherited the property from his father. The Lords of Chrást belonged to the most important families in the Pilsen region in the 14th century and achieved great wealth. Peter von Chrást, who had fought alongside the insurgents during the Hussite Wars , had to give up his property in 1434 and go to Prague. After that, different sexes took turns as owners. In 1514 the city of Pilsen acquired Chrást together with other villages. In the middle of the 17th century, the settlement of mining and mining companies began in the previously purely agricultural village. Since 1680 hammer mills can be found at the Klabawa. In 1789 the St. Veit alum mine was opened. A school building was built between 1807 and 1808. In 1812 a large fire destroyed numerous old farms.

The construction of the railway by the Bohemian Western Railway made Chrást a railway junction. On October 15, 1861 the line from Chrást via Pilsen to Furth im Wald was added and on July 14, 1862 the line Prague - Rokycany - Chrást was inaugurated. On April 2, 1863, the Chrást u Plzně – Stupno railway was completed, and 30 years later it was extended to Radnice . For the latter route, a bridge across the Klabava was required northeast of Chrást . To this end, a bridge with Schifkorn girders was built first. In 1864 a powder factory was founded in the Klabawatal. In connection with the extension of the route, the Schifkorn girders were replaced by fish -bellied girders from 1892–1893 due to the construction errors inherent in this type of construction .

During this time there was also a brick factory in Chrást. In 1899 the machine factory and iron foundry of Suchý, Jouza & Čáp, now known as Atmos , was established. The old school was demolished in 1905–1906 and replaced by a new building. Until 2006 Chrást belonged to the Okres Plzeň-sever and since the beginning of 2007 to the Okres Plzeň-město .
