history
The name Teunz
Due to a lack of written sources, influences on the settlement can only be proven on the basis of place names. In the Altlandkreis Oberviechtach the places Gleiritsch and Teunz are of Slavic origin and are among the oldest settlements in this area. The name Teunz comes from tync , which means little castle, or from tyn , the name for wall, fence or wall. It has not been proven whether there is a connection between a settlement by the Slavs and the barely visible remains of a castle stable northeast of Teunz "in a loop of the Murach on the Wutzelstein rock".
First mentions
Since Teunz is verifiably a Slavic name, the place originated before the turn of the millennium. There are no written sources. In 1280 the name "Teinzen" appeared.
In 1286, the Teunz parish was mentioned in one of the oldest parish registers in the Regensburg diocese. The list was drawn up at the instigation of Pope Gregory X and later on the orders of Pope Honorius IV and was intended to finance the crusade . Each parish was entered in appraisal lists, including Teunz, and each clergyman was ordered to pay a certain amount.
The hammer being
In the Upper Palatinate, the "Ruhr area of the Middle Ages", there were many hammer mills in their heyday. 1387 is "proven to have two hammers in Teunz". They were used for iron processing. In the upper reaches of the Murach , which flows through Teunz and into which the Goldbach flows, there were places with gold mining.
In the great Hammer agreement "Ott bird with hamer to Teintz" is called. The hammer association was an association of 82 hammer mills . It regulated the supply of ore, the manufacture, the distribution and the price of the products. In 1394, "Konrad Paulsdorfer sold the lower house on Tännesberg with its affiliations, including Vogel's Hammer" to Count Palatine Ruprecht II.
Oberteunz, Mittelteunz and Unterteunz
The hydropower was for Teunz always been of great importance. This can still be seen in the place names with the ending -mühle. The Hundsgraben, the Tannenbach and the Höcherlbach, coming from the direction of Wildstein, unite to form the Trausnitz (some maps also mention the name Faustnitz), which flows into the Murach below the village of Teunz. The Goldbach and the Weißbach feed the Murach, which flows into the Schwarzach river at Zangenstein . Since the location on the water and thus the water power for mills , grinding and hammer systems was of essential importance, several feudal lords shared the area along the watercourses. The districts “Oberteunz” (Hebermühle), “Mittelteunz” and “Unterteunz” appear in the files. In 1387 "the existence of two hammers in Teunz is proven".
Records from 1581 read: “Obern Teinz. Christoffen Pirckhs hammermeister is the man who belongs to Mittern Teinz Hammer Mittern Teinz. Nidern Teinz belongs to the team in the Thennersberg ambt. Already, Otto has Otto von Ebleben zum Thannstein vf his güettet bestendige hofmarckh, the other vnderthannen my gentlest gentleman, and two Wolves from Pertolzhof belong to Altendorff, several more belong to the county of Leuchtenberg vnnderworffen ”.
Landgrave of Leuchtenberg
For a long time, the Landgraves of Leuchtenberg were feudal lords in Teunz. "Heinrich, Eberhard and Friedrich Teynczer" are documented in the oldest Leuchtenberg fief book (1396/1399). A file at the Amberg State Archives from 1408 describes the “Lehen Teintz” as follows: “In 1411,“ Leb Tennzerr ”is proven, Albrecht Teyntzer is listed as a witness in 1414 in a document from the Kastl monastery. "Hanns der Teintzer" was mentioned in 1417 and in 1445 a document named the "noble knight Mr. Kolwin zu Teintz".
From 1494 the name Teinzer no longer appeared. Probably they were extinct in the male line. Their heirs were the Pertolzhofer. In 1524, a Leuchtenberg fief book reported that “all the fiefdoms of Teinz, from old belonging to the Teinzians” were handed over to Joachim von Pertolzhofen. In addition to the Pertolzhofers, the Zengers also had properties in Teunz. "Otto and Sebastian Zenger" were named in 1517. Otto the Zenger zu Thanstein received the Teunz estate in 1532 from the Landgraves of Leuchtenberg "for the first time as a 'seat and court marque' with court rights and freedoms". Margaretha, the daughter of Otto dem Zenger, was married to Georg von Ebleben. In 1545 he became court lord in Teunz. In 1564 Jakob Fuchs von Arnschwang was led as a feudal lord. He was the guardian of Otto von Ebleben's underage sons, Hanns and Otto, who were indicated as court lords in 1568. In 1607 followed Georg Wilhelm and Hanns Otto von Ebleben, in 1615 Georg Wilhelm and Friedrich Wilhelm von Ebleben. In 1622, during the Thirty Years' War , Friedrich Wilhelm von Ebleben was named as a Landsasse in "Mittlern Teinz". Due to the religious changes and the armed conflicts during this time, many castles and country estates were destroyed, and in some cases entire villages disappeared. Friedrich Wilhelm von Ebleben switched to the Protestant side and therefore lost his possessions in Teunz in 1633. In 1635 Joachim von Wahl took over the Hofmark Teunz from the Landgraves of Leuchtenberg as a fief .
“Teunz had been associated with Hofmark Fuchsberg since 1749. In 1766, Count von der Wahl sold the Teunz estate to Karl von Taufkirchen. He received the seat and court mark of Teunz in 1767 as a Leuchtenberg knight and man fief, ... "
In the following years the following were registered as Landsassen in Teunz: “1677 Ferdinand Franz Albrecht von der Wahl, 1710 Franz Xaver von der Wahl, 1737 Friedrich Maria von der Wahl, 1740 Johann Ferdinand von der Wahl, 1746 Franz Xaver von der Wahl, 1767 Karl von Taufkirchen zu Fuchsberg, 1769 Eleonora von Taufkirchen, 1783 Stanislaus von Taufkirchen ”. Countess Maria Adelhaid von Taufkirchen, née Fugger von Schwindegg, was his wife. Her tombstone is still in the Teunzer Church.
In the course of the administrative reforms in Bavaria , the municipality of Teunz was created with the municipal edict of 1818 .

coat of arms
The coat of arms shows "in tin cut divided by silver and green, above two red bars, below a silver water wheel."
The four battlements in the coat of arms mean the four former municipalities of Fuchsberg, Teunz, Wildstein and Zeinried, which have been merged to form the municipality of Teunz since 1978. In addition, the pinnacle is the symbol for the fortification (see: History / The name Teunz: "tyn" or "tync").
As Hofmarksherrn von Teunz, the Taufkirchener had a pinnacle in their coat of arms. The two red bars are taken from the coat of arms of Baron von Satzenhofen. The water wheel is reminiscent of the many mills, hammer mills and glass grinding shops along the streams in the municipality. These watercourses shaped the development in this area decisively.
