The Apostelbräu (also Hirz Bräu ) is a beer brewery in Hauzenberg in Lower Bavaria , a town in the Passau district . In 2008 the brewery had an annual production of 8,000 hectoliters, and it includes a brewery restaurant ( birreria ), a distillery and a museum.
history
The brewery was founded by Josef Hirz in Hauzenberger Bräugasse in 1890 and has been family-owned ever since . His son Max sen. and his son Max headed the company from 1931. The founder's great-grandson, Max Hirz jun. rebuilt the brewery at its current location in 1965. Max Hirz jun. and his son Rudolf Hirz started producing spelled beer in 1989, the first of its kind in Germany. Other varieties, the museum and the distillery (2015) followed.

The product range includes the beer types 1. Original Spelled Beer , Hauzenberger Granit White , Traditional 5-Grain Beer , Original Rye Beer , 1st Bavarian Pale Ale , Lower Bavarian Farmhouse , Bavarian Forest Spelt Ale , Granites Tub , Capt'n Spelt Chuck's Barrel , Hopfenklang Score 3 and Hopfen Prof. Grünhopfen-Sud .
In addition, the organically certified varieties Einkorn Gourmet Beer , Historic Emmer Beer and Black Oats are produced.
It is filled in crown cork bottles .
whiskey
The first Apostelbräu whiskey was distilled on May 16, 2015. Spelled grain was used for this. After a maturation period of three years, it is now marketed in granite barrels as Bavarian Granite Whiskey .
museum
The spelled beer museum belonging to the brewery offers insights into brewing technology around 1900, including a brewhouse and restored equipment.
Birreria
The former brewery restaurant was redesigned by Rudolf Hirz into an experience gastronomy with the combination of beer, pizzeria and bar.
