Kellberg is a district of the municipality of Thyrnau and a district in the Lower Bavarian district of Passau . The parish village is located about two and a half kilometers southeast of Thyrnau on the PA 29 district road high above the Danube in the Kellberg district.

history

The parish was first mentioned in a document in 1076. It is the mother church of the parishes of Haag , Hauzenberg and Thyrnau . The parishes of Kellberg and Hauzenberg belonged to the St. Aegidien Hospital in the Passau Innstadt since the 12th century . The local “Innbruckamt” administered the Innbrücke and the Leprosen Hospital as well as the parishes incorporated into the St. Aegidien Hospital, which were to be assigned by the respective “Bruckpfarrer”. In addition to St. Severin with Schardenberg and Wernstein , these included St. Weihflorian , Kellberg, Hauzenberg, Kopfing , Münzkirchen and Tettenweis .

There is evidence of a school operation in the village for 350 years.

At Easter 1838, the Passau doctor and naturalist Dr. Joseph Waltl, pointed out by the local chaplain, found a mineral spring with iron-rich water on Arzberg, about one kilometer east of Kellberg . Jakob Stadler from Eggersdorf acquired the land and the concession to operate a pool. On July 26, 1839, the bathing business was opened. Already this year 18 guest rooms were set up, drip, dust, steam, brine, iodine and other baths were administered under the supervision of Waltl. Numerous guests from all walks of life came from southern Germany and Austria.

In 1852 King Max II stayed in Kellberg. Today's König-Max-Höhe and König-Max-Promenade are a reminder of his visit. On November 25, 1904, the place received a railway connection with the opening of the Passau – Hauzenberg railway.

Judging from old maps belonged to the municipality Kellberg today the Austrian Danube Island Soldatenau . The state border with Austria ran on the right bank of the Danube.

At the turn of the century, around 2,500 baths were administered in the six bath cells of the steel bath. The Bavarian State Ministry of the Interior recognized on 12 July 1920, the source used as a public spa on.

In 1957 the Passau doctor Dr. Franz Schedel and his wife run the facility with 15 hectares of land. The largely dilapidated complex was replaced by a new building in 1959 after unsuccessful renovation attempts. In 1974/75 the complex was expanded to 180 rooms. To this day, the Klinik Prof. Schedel offers a wide range of therapies.

In 1972 the parts of the municipality Edlhof , Erlau and Holzschleife were spun off to Obernzell . In 1973 the place received state recognition as a climatic health resort . May 31, 1975 brought the establishment of the DJK-SV Kellberg. The municipality of Kellberg was incorporated into Thyrnau on May 1, 1978 as part of the regional reform in Bavaria . Johann Anetseder, who had been mayor of Kellberg since 1956, was made an honorary citizen by the local council and was then second mayor of the municipality of Thyrnau from 1978 to 1984.
