The Oberfrauenwald is 947.7 m above sea level. NHN high wooded mountain in the southern Bavarian Forest between the towns of Waldkirchen and Hauzenberg . The district boundary between Passau (the highest point of which it is) and Freyung-Grafenau runs over its summit .
The name Oberfrauenwald goes back to the Niedernburg convent in Passau . Observation tower
A 27 m high observation tower has stood on the Oberfrauenwald since 2001, which enables a comprehensive panorama on all sides. Since then, the mountain has also been visited in summer. The ascent is possible via a hiking trail from the village of Oberfrauenwald or - the shorter variant - from the parking lot of the mountain guard hut 15 minutes below the summit. In the winter months there is a smaller ski area on the northern slopes of the Oberfrauenwald. The observation tower also serves as an antenna support. A directional radio antenna system is installed on the roof , which supplies the surrounding rural areas with WiMAX , wireless broadband internet. In 2013, a webcam was installed on the tower to transmit 360 ° panoramic images.
