Petra Wernicke

Petra Wernicke (born March 2, 1953 in Aschersleben ; † September 14, 2017 ) was a German politician ( CDU ). From 1990 to 2011 she was a member of the state parliament of Saxony-Anhalt and served in various state governments of Saxony-Anhalt as a minister in several ministries.

Career

After graduating from high school in 1971 at an extended secondary school (EOS), Petra Wernicke completed a degree in agriculture at the Martin Luther University in Halle-Wittenberg , which she completed in 1975 with a degree in agricultural engineering. She then worked as an assistant and later as a division manager in a state-owned estate .

Petra Wernicke was married and had three children. She died on September 14, 2017 at the age of 64 from complications from cancer .

politics

Petra Wernicke has been a member of the CDU state executive for Saxony-Anhalt since 1990 . From 1990 to 1998 she was deputy state chairwoman.

From 1990 to 1991 Petra Wernicke belonged to the district council of the Hettstedt district and from 1999 to 2002 the district council of the Mansfelder Land district .

From 1990 to 2011 she was a member of the state parliament of Saxony-Anhalt. She always ran for the constituency of Hettstedt . With the exception of the state elections in 1998 , Wernicke was able to win the constituency four times. After giving up a ministerial office for health reasons in 2009, she did not run for the state elections in 2011.

From 1993 to 1994 she was Minister for Food, Agriculture and Forestry in the Bergner Cabinet . Wernicke was Minister for Agriculture and Environment from 2002 to 2006 in the Böhmer I cabinet and subsequently from 2006 to 2009 in the Böhmer II cabinet .

Public offices

From 1984 to 1990 she was the deputy mayor of her place of residence, Walbeck . Since 1995 she has been honorary mayor here.

On July 4, 1991, she was first appointed as Minister for Regional Planning, Urban Development and Housing in the State Government of Saxony-Anhalt, led by Prime Minister Werner Münch , in the Münch cabinet .

Instead, she was appointed Minister for Food, Agriculture and Forestry on September 12, 1991. In this function, she was also a member of the government led by Christoph Bergner since December 15, 1993 . Since the CDU-FDP coalition lost its majority in the state elections in 1994, it left office on July 21, 1994.

On May 16, 2002, she was appointed Minister for Agriculture and the Environment to the cabinet headed by Wolfgang Böhmer . On October 12, 2009, Wernicke resigned from the ministerial office for health reasons.

Awards

On March 18, 2009, Petra Wernicke was awarded the Federal Cross of Merit on ribbon by Wolfgang Böhmer. She received this award for her services in building democratic structures in Saxony-Anhalt. On September 8, 2017, Wernicke was awarded the Order of Merit of the State of Saxony-Anhalt. With this award, her contribution to the development of democratic structures in Saxony-Anhalt and her life's work was recognized.
