The Böhmer I cabinet formed the state government of Saxony-Anhalt from 2002 to 2006 . She went from the election as the fourth parliament of the country Saxony-Anhalt out of 21 April of 2002. In this state election, the previously ruling SPD with Prime Minister Reinhard Höppner suffered a significant defeat and, with a loss of 15.9 percentage points compared to the 1998 election, was only the third strongest political force in the state parliament , behind the CDU and PDS .

The CDU with its top candidate Wolfgang Böhmer , state chairman of the CDU Saxony-Anhalt and chairman of the CDU parliamentary group , was able to form a government together with the FDP as the winner . Together, the government parliamentary groups had 65 seats in the state parliament, compared to 50 seats in the opposition from the PDS and SPD.

In the constituent session of the 4th state parliament of Saxony-Anhalt on May 16, 2002, Wolfgang Böhmer was elected Prime Minister, and on the following day he appointed the members of his state government . Besides Bohemian itself also had three ministers ( Karl-Heinz Daehre , Horst Rehberger and Petra Wernicke ) already during the first term belongs to the Diet (1990 to 1994) previous CDU / FDP cabinets. In the next state election on March 26, 2006 , the black-yellow coalition lost its majority . Prime Minister Wolfgang Böhmer was able to continue serving at the head of a coalition made up of CDU and SPD: On April 24, 2006, the Böhmer II cabinet was formed.
