Curt Martin Becker (born June 19, 1936 in Naumburg (Saale) ; † May 22, 2018 there ) was a German politician ( CDU ). From 1990 to 2006 he was a member of the state parliament of Saxony-Anhalt , since 1990 mayor of the city of Naumburg (1994–2001 as lord mayor) and from 2002 to 2006 Minister of Justice of Saxony-Anhalt .

Life and work

Curt Becker attended the Pforta State School . After high school and law studies in Kiel and Tübingen (1965 assessor examination), Becker worked from 1965 to 1967 as a court assessor in Baden-Württemberg . From 1967 to 1972 he was a public prosecutor at the central office for the investigation of Nazi crimes in Ludwigsburg . He then moved to the Baden-Württemberg Ministry of Social Affairs, where he was most recently responsible for cabinet, state parliament and federal council matters. From 1982 to 1990 Curt Becker was the association director of the municipal state welfare association Württemberg-Hohenzollern .

Becker was a Protestant, married and had two children. He died in May 2018 at the age of 81.

Political career

Becker joined the CDU in 1967. From 1973 to 1982 he was a member of the Ludwigsburg district council and from 1987 to 1990 chairman of the CDU city association of Ludwigsburg.

After the Peaceful Revolution in the GDR in 1989, Curt Becker returned from Baden-Württemberg to his home in Saxony-Anhalt. He was elected mayor of the city of Naumburg in 1990. He held this office (from 1994 as Lord Mayor) until 2001. From the 1st legislative period (1990–1994) to the 4th legislative period (2002–2006) he was a member of the state parliament of Saxony-Anhalt. From May 2002 to May 2006 Curt Becker was Minister of Justice in the CDU / FDP state government ( Böhmer I cabinet ).

Honorary positions

Curt Becker is an honorary citizen of the city of Naumburg. He was a member of the DRK and VdK , honorary member of the TV Friesen , the privileged rifle corps Naumburg , the city guard Naumburg, the Claudius men's choir and the Naumburg volunteer fire department .

He was canon and since 2013 dean of the United Cathedral Donors in Merseburg and Naumburg and of the Zeitz Collegiate Foundation . Curt Becker was also deputy chairman of the Schulpforta Foundation and first chairman of the KulturAkademie Naumburg, founded in 2013. He was honorary castle leader of the Ludwigsburg residential palace .

In March 2019, the city council of Naumburg decided to rename the Theaterplatz to Curt-Becker-Platz. The renaming was completed on May 22, 2019.
