Manfred Püchel

Manfred Püchel (born May 20, 1951 in Etgersleben near Magdeburg) is a German politician ( SPD ). From 1990 to 2011 he was a member of the state parliament and from 1994 to 2002 Minister of the Interior of Saxony-Anhalt .

education

After graduating from high school, Püchel studied chemistry and received his doctorate in 1978 . As a chemist, he worked in a hospital as laboratory manager until 1992.

Public offices

In 1990 he was elected to the state parliament of Saxony-Anhalt, to which he belonged continuously until 2011. After the state elections in 1994 and Reinhard Höppner's assumption of government , Püchel was appointed Minister of the Interior of Saxony-Anhalt ( Höppner I cabinet ). After the 1998 election he was confirmed in office ( Höppner II cabinet ). After Justice Minister Karin Schubert was appointed Justice Senator by Berlin's Governing Mayor Klaus Wowereit in January 2002 , Püchel also took over the justice department and remained in both offices until the change of government in 2002. After Wolfgang Böhmer took over the government , Püchel took over the chairmanship of his party in the state parliament. He held this office until June 18, 2004. The previous parliamentary manager of the SPD, Jens Bullerjahn , became his successor in the parliamentary group chairmanship .

Political party

After the fall of the Berlin Wall, he joined the SPD in 1990. In the same year he was elected to the district executive committee of the SPD Magdeburg and in 1990 was SPD district chairman in Staßfurt, from 1993 to 2002 he held this office again in the Aschersleben-Staßfurt district. He has been a member of the state executive since 1992, was deputy state chairman from 2000 to 2002 and state chairman of the SPD in Saxony-Anhalt from May 2002 to June 2004. On June 18, 2004, he resigned from office for health reasons. From 2003 to 2005 he was a member of the SPD federal executive committee.
