Rüdiger Fikentscher (born January 30, 1941 in Probsthain , Silesia ) is a German SPD politician .

Life and work

After the war, Fikentscher grew up in Zwickau , where he graduated from the “Gerhart Hauptmann” extended high school in 1959. He then studied medicine at the Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg and began training as a specialist in 1967. From 1972 to 1981 he was a specialist in ENT . He was a senior physician until 1985, before becoming a lecturer at the university until 1990.

Fikentscher is married and has two children.

Politics / party

In 1989 Fikentscher joined the Social Democratic Party of the GDR (SDP). In 1990 he became SPD district chairman of Halle and when the state of Saxony-Anhalt was founded in 1990 he was SPD state chairman until 2002. From 1995 to 2006 Fikentscher was chairman of the SPD federal party council.

Fikentscher was a member of the first freely elected people 's chamber in the GDR. He was a member of the state parliament of Saxony-Anhalt from the 1st electoral term to the 5th electoral term . Here he held the post of Vice President of the State Parliament from 1990 to 1994 and from 2002 to 2011. From 1994 to 2002 Fikentscher was SPD parliamentary group leader in the state parliament. He represented the constituency of Halle III in the state parliament .

He has been a member of Halle's city council since 2004.

Awards

On March 18, 2009, Rüdiger Fikentscher was awarded the Cross of Merit 1st Class by Wolfgang Böhmer. He received this award for his services in building democratic structures in Saxony-Anhalt.
