Erich Damerow
Erich August Ferdinand Damerow (born July 14, 1886 in Glienke near Bromberg , † February 14, 1972 in Berlin ) was a German politician ( DDP / LDPD ). He was Deputy Prime Minister of Saxony-Anhalt and Minister for Agriculture and Forestry , Trade and Supply and for Justice of the State of Saxony-Anhalt.
Life
Damerow attended secondary school and graduated from high school in 1906 . Then studied law and political science at the universities in Berlin , Munich and Kiel . In 1911 he received his doctorate in Erlangen for Dr. jur. and passed the 1st and 2nd state law exams. In 1914/1915 he did military service . After that he was assistant judge at various local courts in the province of Posen until 1918 and magistrate judge in Bromberg and Cottbus until 1920 .
In 1919 Damerow joined the DDP. From 1920 to 1922 he was a city councilor in Zerbst and from 1922/1923 he was mayor there. In 1924 he was elected Lord Mayor of Köthen . In 1933 he was deposed by the Nazi regime and briefly taken into “ protective custody ”, followed by Richard Hengst in office . He then worked until 1945 as an agent, a clerk and counsel , most recently in 1942 in the Chamber of Commerce of Chemnitz .
After the end of the war, in June 1945 he was one of the founders of the Democratic People's Party in Halle (Saale) , which was absorbed into the Liberal Democratic Party of Germany (LDP) in August 1945. Until March 1950 he was a member of the LDP regional executive committee. Damerow was state chairman of the LDP in Saxony-Anhalt from 1946 to 1950 and belonged to the LDP or LDPD central board from 1947 to 1972, from July 1947 to February 1949 as deputy chairman of the central board.
In May 1946 he became Vice President of the Province of Saxony . After the state elections in December 1946 , he was a member of the state parliament and worked as deputy prime minister and minister for agriculture and forestry, trade and supply, and from 1948 as minister of justice for the state of Saxony-Anhalt.
In 1948/1949 he was a member of the Constitutional Committee and a member of the People's Council and the Provisional People's Chamber .
From 1951 Damerow was head of department and legal advisor in the Ministry of Finance of the GDR.
