List of members of the Provisional People's Chamber

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

With the founding act of the German Democratic Republic on October 7, 1949, the German People's Council , which had existed until then, was constituted as the Provisional People's Chamber of the GDR. At 12.45 p.m. on October 7, the German People's Council decided at its 9th and final meeting in the Great Hall of the German Economic Commission to transform itself into the Provisional People's Chamber of the GDR. At 5:35 p.m. on the same day, the Provisional People's Chamber was constituted. The purpose of this constitution was, among other things, to bring the GDR constitution into force.

Presidium members of the Provisional People's Chamber

Note: The composition of the Presidium contradicts Art. 57 of the constitution of the GDR of October 7, 1949. According to this, only parliamentary groups with at least 40 MPs were allowed to send a representative to the Presidium. Specifically, that would have been the SED, LDP and CDU. The nuance between NDP and DBD is also striking. While the National Democrats were given a deputy post, the DBD only had one assessor. Why no other mass organizations apart from the DFD and FDGB were taken into account has not been clarified.
