Walter Biering (born December 2, 1898 in Söhesten , † April 20, 1964 ) was a German SED functionary. He was a member of the state parliament of Saxony-Anhalt from 1946 to 1950 and a member of the People's Chamber .

Life

Walter Biering was born the son of a small farmer and completed an apprenticeship as a bricklayer from 1913 to 1916 after finishing school. In 1917 he was drafted into military service and wounded in 1918. After his release from the hospital, Biering returned to his parents' farm in 1923 and became an independent farmer in 1925. Because of his political activities, Biering was imprisoned in the Sonnenburg concentration camp for seven months in 1933 and arrested again in 1944. He earned his living with his peasant economy, which he continued after the end of the war despite his increasing political activities. In 1956 he joined the LPG "Banner des Friedens" Muschwitz and became a cooperative farmer.

politics

Walter Biering took part in a workers 'and soldiers' council in 1919 and initially became a member of the SPD. In 1927 he joined the KPD and immediately became a member of the leadership of the KPD district of Halle . Because of his work, Biering became a farmer's advisor and founded the Association of Small Farmers . He was involved in the development of a peasant aid program for the KPD. In 1929 he succeeded in getting a mandate in the provincial parliament of Saxony for the KPD. He represented his party in this parliament until 1933. After going into political illegality in 1933, Biering remained active for his party despite two arrests.

Shortly after the end of the war, he took part in the re-establishment of the KPD and the establishment of the newly created Association of Mutual Peasant Aid (VdgB), initially in Saxony-Anhalt. In 1945 he was elected the first VdgB state chairman of Saxony-Anhalt . For this mass organization , which was the only one admitted to the state elections of 1946, Biering was able to win one of two mandates. In the SED, of which Biering became a member through forced unification , he was a member of the party executive from 1946 to 1950, and was a candidate for the SED Central Committee from 1950 to 1963. He represented his party from 1949, first as a member of the Second German People's Council , and later as a member of the People's Chamber until the end of the third electoral period in 1963. Biering was a member of the central board of the VdgB from 1949 to 1963 and was its deputy chairman from 1954 to 1963. From 1954 to 1958 he was also a member of the Presidium of the National Council of the National Front .
