Otto Möller (politician, 1892)

Heinrich Otto Möller (born August 26, 1892 in Retterode , † January 14, 1978 in Rostock ) was a German agricultural scientist and party functionary of the GDR block party NDPD .

Life

Otto Möller attended the higher technical schools for water management and cultural engineering in Kassel and Schleusingen from 1907 to 1911 . After graduating as a cultural architect , he worked at the Meliorationsbauamt in Düsseldorf until 1912 . Then he was an assistant at the Chamber of Agriculture in Halle until 1914 . From 1919 to 1945 he was head of the cultural technology and grassland department of the Rostock Chamber of Agriculture . There he was a member of a Masonic lodge from 1924 to 1933 .

From 1933 to 1945 he was a department head and consultant for arable and crop production in the Mecklenburg State Farmers' Union in Rostock (from 1935 in Güstrow).

After the Second World War he was briefly department head of the commandant administration in Güstrow, then vice-president of the state administration of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. From 1946 to 1948 he was Minister for Agriculture and Forestry for the State of Mecklenburg .

In 1948 he took over the chair and management of the Institute for State Culture and Improvement at the University of Rostock . From 1950 to 1952 he was the main department head of the State Planning Commission of the GDR. He then headed the GDR's Department of Water Management until 1955, then the Institute for Melioration at the University of Rostock until 1960. In 1967 Möller received the honorary doctorate Dr. bad. hc and in 1972 the badge of honor from the University of Rostock.

Parties and organizations

Otto Möller was a member of the DDP in the 1920s . From 1932 until leaving in 1933 he was a member of the Stahlhelm .

In 1945 he first joined the CDU , but in 1948 he switched to the NDPD , whose main board he was a member from 1949. From 1949 to 1950 he was also deputy chairman of the state executive. From 1950 to 1963 he was a member of the People's Chamber .

Otto Möller was a member of the National Council from 1954 to 1958 and chairman of the Rostock District Committee of the National Front from 1956 to 1968 .

Awards

In 1957 he received the Patriotic Order of Merit in silver and in 1972 in gold. In 1977 he was awarded the Gold Medal for the Patriotic Order of Merit.
