Hans Eberling

Hans Eberling (born March 11, 1905 in Weimar ; † January 25, 1982 in Gera ) was a German SPD , KPD and SED functionary.

Life

Eberling, like his older brother Willy Eberling, came from a family of craftsmen . After attending elementary school , he began an apprenticeship as a wood sculptor, which he broke off for financial reasons. In 1919 he joined the socialist youth workers, of which he became chairman in 1928 after attending the socialist home folk high school in Tinz . In 1920 he became a member of the German Woodworkers Association . From 1930 to 1933 he was the SPD secretary in Gera and Nordhausen . In 1932 he was delegated to the Party Congress of the SPD.

At the beginning of the National Socialist dictatorship , he evaded arrest through an extensive journey. He then worked as a freelance draftsman and supported the resistance against National Socialism in the Nehrling-Eberling group . In 1938 he was temporarily arrested. During the Second World War he had to enlist in the Wehrmacht .

After the liberation from National Socialism in 1945, Werner Eggerath brought him to the KPD district leadership as secretary. In November he was one of the members of the "Sixties Conference" that decided to forcibly unite the SPD and KPD . After unification he became secretary of the SED state executive. From autumn 1947 he acted as deputy SED state chairman of Thuringia . He also worked in the People's Congress movement and became its chairman in 1949. In 1950 he moved to the regional management of the FDGB. From 1952 to 1963 he worked as a secretary for economy and culture at the SED district leadership in Gera.
