Life
Pöhls attended the village school and the private boys' school in Lübenheen . In the fall of 1908 he left the secondary school before the final exam and completed the one-year military service. In 1909 he entered the grand-ducal office of Grabow as a civil servant candidate . In 1911 Pöhls passed the examination for the registry service in the domain administration and from then on worked as an official diary in the offices of Neubukow , Boizenburg , Bergamt Lübheen, Hagenow and Grabow. In 1919 Pöhls was appointed administrative actuary and moved to Schwerin in the settlement office of the Mecklenburg Ministry of Agriculture, Domains and Forests. In 1926 Pöhls was promoted to bailiff , in 1945 he was promoted to government councilor.
In the Weimar Republic Werner Pöhls had joined the German Democratic Party , for which he applied for a seat in the Schwerin city council in 1924 . Pöhls had also been active as a journalist and u. a. published in the Mecklenburg monthly magazine. After 1945 belonged to the co-founders of the CDU in Schwerin. He was a member of the state board and was primarily responsible for press work. Under his responsibility, Der Demokratie appeared in December 1945 as the press organ of the CDU regional association Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. Pöhls published numerous articles here that were always on the official party line and were considered "progressive". He was released from the Ministry for organizational work in the regional association. Finally, the state executive rewarded his adaptability with the ministerial office, which had become vacant after Friedrich Burmeister moved to Berlin. In 1950, Pöhls refused to accept a district administrator position or the office of deputy mayor instead of the ministerial office. He became unemployed and headed the Märkische Union publishing house from 1951 to 1953 . In 1953 he left the GDR and only moved to Düsseldorf and 1958 to Bad Honnef.
