Friedrich Possible
Friedrich Possible (born October 12, 1902 in Berlin ; † June 17, 1957 there ) was a German theoretical physicist who was best known for his research on wave optics .
Life
Friedrich Possible was a student of Erwin Schrödinger and Max von Laue , from whom he received his doctorate in 1927 with a dissertation on diffraction phenomena on bodies of ellipsoidal shape . He had completed his habilitation in 1930. In 1932, Possible joined the NSDAP and the SA . He was one of the first National Socialists in the teaching staff at Berlin University. In 1934 he was appointed head of the teaching staff at the University of Berlin. Since 1935, Possible came into conflict with the Nazi regime. Since the Gestapo against him for foreign exchange offenses and " Rassenschande"discovered, he fled temporarily to London and Paris. After his return he was arrested in 1937 because of his love affair with a Jewish woman. In 1938, possible because of" racial disgrace "was expelled from the NSDAP. This ended his academic career. He found Laue's advocacy a scientific activity in the industry as a freelance employee at the study society for electrical lighting of Osram GmbH .
After the end of the war, a possible scientist in the biomedical research center in Berlin. In 1945 he was appointed advisor in the German Central Administration for National Education (DZVVB). In 1947 he took over the editor-in-chief of the Annalen der Physik . In 1946 he was appointed full professor for theoretical physics and director of the institute for theoretical physics. In 1947/57 he was director of the Institute for Solid State Research of the German Academy of Sciences . He was also a professor and director of the Institute for Theoretical Physics at Humboldt University .
Possibly belonged to the 1st and 2nd German People's Council .
