Fritz Beyling (born January 4, 1909 in Burgörner ; † February 9, 1963 in Berlin ) was an editor and German politician ( KPD / SED ) and resistance fighter against National Socialism. In 1947 he was elected regional chairman of the Association of Victims of the Nazi Regime (VVN) in Saxony-Anhalt . From 1951 to 1953 Beyling was General Secretary of the VVN and Vice President of the Fédération Internationale des Résistants (FIR).

Life

Beyling was the son of a miner born, attended the elementary and middle school and was himself later worked as a miner. In 1923 he joined the Free Socialist Youth , later the Communist Youth Association of Germany (KJVD). In 1927 he became youth secretary of the KJVD Halle - Merseburg and a member of the KPD. In 1928 he attended the party college of the Central Committee of the KPD. From 1928 Beyling was the editor of various communist newspapers in Central Germany: 1928–1930 editor of the newspaper Klassenkampf (Halle), 1930/31 editor-in-chief of the Tribüne ( Magdeburg ), 1931/32 editor of the Kämpfers ( Chemnitz ) and 1932/33 editor-in-chief of the Arbeiterstimme ( Dresden) ). In the spring of 1933 he headed the illegal newspaper Rote Sturmfahne in the Dresden district and was responsible for the publication and distribution of the likewise illegal tribune in Magdeburg until July 1933 .

In July 1933 he was arrested for his illegal activities for the KPD in Magdeburg and in September 1934 sentenced to three years imprisonment for “preparing for high treason ”, which he spent in Zwickau prison.

In October 1942 Beyling was drafted into the 999 Penal Battalion . In May 1943 he was taken prisoner by the French in Tunisia : He stayed in the camps Djelfa (1943–1945) and Pont-du-Fahs (1946), where he did anti-fascist work among fellow prisoners.

Beyling returned to Germany in autumn 1946 and became a member of the SED. Here he resumed his editorial work: 1946–1948 editor, 1948–1950 editor-in-chief of the newspaper Freiheit (Saxony-Anhalt). In 1950/51 he was head of the Central Editor's Junior School of the Central Committee Agitation Department of the SED at the party college in Kleinmachnow . From 1953 to 1958 Beyling was head of the press office at the chairman of the GDR Council of Ministers .

In 1947 he was elected regional chairman of the Association of Victims of the Nazi Regime (VVN) Saxony-Anhalt. From 1951 to 1953 Beyling was General Secretary of the VVN and Vice President of the Fédération Internationale des Résistants (FIR). From 1958 to 1963 Beyling was the first chairman of the secretariat of the central board of the Society for German-Soviet Friendship (DSF).

Beyling was a member of the German People's Council and from 1950 to 1958 a member of the People's Chamber . His urn was in the grave conditioning Pergolenweg the memorial of the socialists at the Berlin Central Cemetery Friedrichsfelde buried.

Awards and honors

  • Patriotic Order of Merit in bronze (1955) and in silver (1964)
  • The copper-silver smelter in Hettstedt carried his name until 1989.
