Walter König (politician, 1893)

Emil Walter König (born January 21, 1893 in Nordhausen , † December 25, 1977 in Gera ) was a German party functionary of the GDR bloc party NDPD . He was NDPD state chairman in Thuringia , Thuringian finance minister and member of the People's Chamber of the GDR .

Life

König, the son of a chemist , studied mathematics and physics at the universities of Munich , Freiburg im Breisgau and Göttingen after attending middle school and high school in Nordhausen . In 1921 he passed the state examination for the higher teaching post and worked from 1926 to 1947 as a teacher in Jüterbog , Berlin and Nordhausen. From 1947 to 1949, König was a school councilor and city ​​councilor in Nordhausen. In 1949 he headed the cultural education department in the Thuringian Ministry of Education.

In 1945, König joined the Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) and was a member of the Nordhausen district leadership of the LDP. However, in 1948 he switched to the newly founded National Democratic Party of Germany (NDPD). From June 1949 to 1952 he was first chairman of the state board of the NDPD Thuringia (successor to Günther Ludwig ). From 1949 König was a long-time member of the main committee of the NDPD.

From 1946 to 1948 he was a member of the Thuringian State Parliament , where he was also a member of the Presidium. In 1948/1949 he was a member of the German People's Council , then from 1949 to 1963 a member of the People's Chamber. Most recently he was a member of the Standing Committee on General Affairs.

From 1950 to 1952, King was Thuringian Minister of Finance (successor to Leonhard Moog ). After the dissolution of the states in the GDR, he was deputy chairman of the Gera district council from 1952 to 1958 .
