Cheikhou Kouyaté (born December 21, 1989 in Dakar ) is a Senegalese football player. The defensive player is under contract with Crystal Palace .
Club career
Kouyaté came to Belgium from Senegal in 2006 and got a young player contract with FC Brussels . He then moved to RSC Anderlecht in 2008 , for whom he scored four goals in 143 league games until 2014 and was Belgian champion four times. He had initially spent the 2008/09 season on loan from KV Kortrijk .
In the summer of 2014, Sam Allardyce brought him to West Ham United's Premier League . He has been a regular here ever since and has played over 30 league games each season. He was eliminated with the team in the 2015/16 and 2016/17 qualifying rounds and playoffs for the UEFA Europa League . His contract ran until 2021.
At the beginning of August 2018 he joined Crystal Palace on a four-year contract .
National team
In February 2012, Kouyaté was drafted into the Senegalese senior team . His first major tournament was the 2015 Africa Cup in Equatorial Guinea , where Senegal was eliminated from the group with four points. Two years later, at the 2017 African Cup of Nations in Gabon , he was again a regular in the Senegalese squad , this time as team captain . He won Group B with his team and was eliminated from the tournament in the quarterfinals against Cameroon 4-5 on penalties. At the 2018 World Cup , he played all three group games until the team was eliminated.
At the Africa Cup of Nations 2019 , Kouyaté was part of the Senegalese squad.
