Career

society

Townsend has played for Spurs since he was nine and was trained in their football academy since 2007. During his time there, he helped ensure that the club's U18 team reached the final of the Premier Academy League of the 2008/09 season. In March 2009 Townsend was awarded to the English third division club Yeovil Town to gain experience until the end of the season. Immediately afterwards, in August 2009, a loan deal was concluded with Football League One representative Leyton Orient , which was limited to one month. However, after he was able to achieve the interim 2-2 (final score 3: 3) in the league game against his former club Yeovil Town by running across the field, his loan contract was extended until the end of the first half of the season. But even after this loan Townsend was not ready for the Spurs squad and should spend the second half of the 2009/10 season at Milton Keynes Dons . After two months, however, Tottenham Hotspur faced acute injury problems, so Townsend and Jake Livermore were recalled.

At the beginning of the 2010/11 season Townsend signed a loan deal with the second division club Ipswich Town , which should apply for the entire season. After average performance, the loan was terminated early at the turn of the year. This made it possible for Townsend to make his competitive debut for Spurs in the third round of the FA Cup and at the same time to score his first goal. Due to his appearances in the second division , however, he could not apply for nominations in the first team of the Spurs, so that the second division Watford FC secured the services of the Englishman until the end of the season. There, however, he was released after a month and three missions from the loan business, so that Townsend had the fourth employer in one season with the signature at Millwall FC in March 2011.

At the end of the season he returned to London and spent the first half of the 2011/12 season in the Spurs squad , for which he was still unable to play a Premier League game but played six Europa League games. For the second half of the 2011/12 season Townsend was loaned to Leeds United until the end of the season and also extended his contract with Tottenham Hotspur by four years. However, he was awarded to Birmingham City in February because he was not satisfied with Leeds.

He spent the first half of the 2012/13 season in Tottenham and made his first five appearances in the Premier League and three in the Europa League . On January 31, 2013 Townsend moved to the end of the season on loan to the Queens Park Rangers . In twelve games he scored his first two Premier League goals; However, the club rose from bottom of the table.

In June 2013 Townsend was suspended for four months by the national FA for violating betting rules. In addition, a fine of £ 18,000 was imposed.

Townsend joined Newcastle United in January 2016 . He signed a five and a half year contract with the Magpies . After relegation with Newcastle United, he moved to Crystal Palace for the 2016/17 season .

National team

Townsend went through the U-16, U-17 and U-19 national teams of the English Football Association . With the U-19 he took part in the U-19 European Championship in Ukraine in 2009 and was substituted there twice in the group phase.

He made his first game for England's senior team in the starting eleven in the qualifying game for the 2014 World Cup against Montenegro on October 11, 2013. His game was praised ( Townsend had dream debut ), and he scored in a 4-1 victory in the 78th minute a goal. His last international match so far was on November 15, 2016 in a 2-2 draw against Spain . Since then it has not been taken into account.
