Player career
Liverpool FC
Kelly made his competitive debut on December 9, 2008 in the UEFA Champions League against PSV Eindhoven when he came on for Jamie Carragher . From the end of March 2009 to the end of the season he played on loan for the third division club Huddersfield Town in Football League One and came to seven missions (1 goal). After his return to Liverpool, the junior international came on March 15, 2010 in a 4-1 win against Portsmouth FC for his Premier League debut in 2009/10 .
After Kenny Dalglish replaced his predecessor Roy Hodgson as coach of the club on January 8, 2011 , Martin Kelly was regularly considered in the first team of Liverpool until he sustained a serious injury to his Achilles tendon at the end of February . Only in the 2011/2012 season he came back to occasional missions, but was not a regular behind Glen Johnson , so he finally came to 12 season appearances . On November 29, 2011, he scored the 2-0 in the quarter-finals of the English League Cup against Chelsea and thus his first competitive goal for Liverpool.
For the 2014/15 season Kelly moved to Crystal Palace . He signed a three-year contract until June 30, 2017.
English national team
Martin Kelly took part in the 2009 Junior World Cup in Egypt with the England U-20 national team. However, the English national team experienced a disaster at this tournament and failed in the preliminary round. On August 10, 2010, he made his debut for the England U-21 national team and scored his first goal.
Kelly played his first full international match on May 26, 2012 when he came on for Phil Jones after 87 minutes in the friendly against Norway . After the failure of Gary Cahill , Martin Kelly was nominated for the 2012 European Football Championship . As in the club, however, he is only a substitute behind Glen Johnson .
