Wilfried Zaha was born in Abidjan, Ivory Coast. From the age of four he grew up in London . In addition to the British he also has the Ivorian citizenship.

Career

Crystal Palace

Originally from the youth academy of Crystal Palace Wilfried Zaha made his debut on March 27, 2010 for the first team in the Football League Championship 2009/10 (1: 2 home defeat against Cardiff City). His club had filed for bankruptcy during the season and was then punished with a deduction of ten points. Because of this point deduction, the club was in danger of relegation, but narrowly secured relegation.

In the 2010/11 season, Zaha (41 league games / 1 goal) earned a regular place in the team coached by George Burley , which he kept after Burley's dismissal under his successor and previous assistant coach Dougie Freedman . The young winger also played 41 league games in the Football League Championship 2011/12 and increased his goal count to six goals. In March 2012, 19-year-old Zaha was voted “Young Player of the Year” in the Football League . After three years in the relegation battle of the Football League Championship , Zaha rose to the Premier League with Crystal Palace in the 2012/13 season .

On January 25, 2013, Zaha moved to the first division club Manchester United for a transfer fee of around £ 10 million . However, he ended the season on loan at Crystal Palace. After Zaha could not prevail at first, he was loaned to Cardiff City on January 31, 2014 until the end of the 2013/14 season.

In late August 2014, Zaha returned to Crystal Palace on loan until the end of the 2014/15 season . In early February 2015, Zaha signed a contract with Crystal Palace until the summer of 2020, the transfer fee should have been at least three million pounds. In London he quickly fought for a regular place on his return.

National team

Wilfried Zaha was appointed to the England U-21 national team for the first time on February 23, 2012 . On February 29, 2012, he played his first international game for the U-21s in a 4-0 home win over Belgium.

On November 14, 2012, he played his first international match for England's senior team (2: 4 defeat in Sweden) after his substitution in the 85th minute for Raheem Sterling .

In November 2016, the Ivorian Football Association announced that Zaha had applied to FIFA to change associations. He made his debut for the Ivory Coast national team in preparation for the 2017 African Cup - again against Sweden. He scored his first international goal a few days later in another friendly against Uganda .
