Connor Wickham (born March 31, 1993 in Hereford ) is an English football player .

Wickham has been playing for the first division club Crystal Palace since the summer of 2015 and is considered a great hope in the storm of the English national team .

Career

In 2002, Wickham began playing football in the youth division of Reading FC . In 2006 he moved to Colchester with his family . There he played in the school team of the Philip Morant School and in the youth teams of Ipswich Town . Already at the age of 12 he had offers from numerous top English clubs, all of which he declined.

In the 2008/09 season he sniffed for the first time in the professional team that played in the Football League Championship , the second English division. He made his debut on April 11, 2009 (42nd matchday) against the Doncaster Rovers at the age of only 16 years and eleven days. This made him the youngest player ever to play for Ipswich Town. His first goals in professional football he scored in the League Cup game against Shrewsbury Town on August 11, 2009. At 3: 3 in the first round, he scored two goals; in the subsequent penalty shoot-out, which Ipswich won 4-2, he met again.

Wickham played for England's U-16 national team and won the 2008 Victory Shield , an annual tournament between the U-16 national teams of England, Scotland, Northern Ireland and Wales.

For the U-17 national team, he scored a remarkable nine times in 13 games. So he could z. B. in the European Championship qualifier against Azerbaijan scored three goals in just 21 minutes. In 2010 he and his team took part in the U-17 European Championship in Liechtenstein , where the English won the title. On November 16, 2010, he made his debut for the U-21 national team in the game against Germany . At the U-21 European Championship in Denmark in 2011 , he was in the squad, but was not used. In the following two years he played frequently in qualifying for the U-21 European Championship in 2013 ; at the tournament itself, which took place in June 2013 in Israel , it was used in all three group matches.
