Sol C. Siegel

Sol C. Siegel (born March 30, 1903 in New York City , † December 29, 1982 in Los Angeles ) was an American film producer .

Life

After graduating from Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism , Sol C. Siegel began his professional career as a reporter with the New York Herald Tribune and then served as sales director for the recording company American Record Corporation . In 1934 he went to Hollywood , where he produced numerous B-films for the independent production company Republic Pictures from 1936 , including several westerns with Gene Autry and John Wayne . In 1940 he left Republic for a contract with Paramount Pictures . In 1947 he moved to 20th Century Fox , where he worked as a producer with film comedies such as I Was a Male War Bride ( I Was a Male War Bride , 1949), Monkey Business ( Monkey Business , 1952) and Gentlemen Prefer Blondes ( Gentlemen Prefer Blondes , 1953) achieved great success. In 1955 he received an Oscar nomination in the category Best Film for Jean Negulescos Three Coins in the Fountain ( Three Coins in the Fountain ).

In 1956 he was hired by MGM , where he was named vice president two years later. In the 1960s, he made his own and worked from then on as an independent producer. By 1968 Siegel had produced almost 100 feature films. He died in Los Angeles in 1982 at the age of 79 and was buried in Hillside Memorial Park in Culver City .
