Erich Fascher

Erich Fascher (born December 14, 1897 in Göttingen , † July 23, 1978 in Potsdam ) was a German Protestant theologian . He was the founder of the collection of theological comments on the New Testament , which was published from 1968 to 1998 in the Evangelical Publishing House.

Live and act

Erich Fascher was the son of a businessman. After graduating from high school, he began studying theology at the University of Göttingen in 1916 . In 1917/1918 he took part in the First World War as a paramedic and then continued his theology studies.

1921-22 he was a candidate in the seminary Erichsburg and then an assistant at the New Testament Seminar at the University of Göttingen. In 1924 he was with the work of the form-critical method to Lic. Theol. doctorate , in 1926 he qualified as a professor in the New Testament. He then worked as a private lecturer in Marburg and in 1930 was given a chair in Jena . After conflicts with Nazi-minded students, he was transferred to the theological faculty of the University of Halle in 1936 . During the Second World War Erich Fascher was a hospital chaplain and head of a language convict . Two of his texts were placed on the list of literature to be segregated in the Soviet occupation zone .

After the Second World War, Fascher joined the CDU in 1945 and was involved in state politics . In 1946/1947 he was a member of the 1st State Parliament of Saxony-Anhalt and chairman of the CDU parliamentary group there , then he became a member of the 1st People's Council of the Soviet Zone and later the People's Chamber . In the CDU he was deputy state chairman from 1946 and from 1948 to 1950 chairman of the CDU state association Saxony-Anhalt . He was also a member of the central board of the Society for German-Soviet Friendship .

Because of his critical attitude towards the dominance of the SED , he was removed from his party positions in February 1950 and transferred to Greifswald . In 1954 he was offered a professorship at the Humboldt University in Berlin . From 1958 until his retirement in 1964 he was dean of the theological faculty there.

In 1962 he received the Patriotic Order of Merit in silver.
