Hans Walter Kurt Bardtke (born September 22, 1906 in Rixdorf , † March 8, 1975 in Leipzig ) was a German Lutheran theologian .

Life

Hans Bardtke was born on September 22, 1906 in Rixdorf (Berlin-Neukölln) as the son of an authorized signatory . He studied Protestant theology , ancient history and ancient oriental studies from 1924, first at the Humboldt University in Berlin , then at the universities of Giessen and Hamburg . He finished his studies in 1929. In 1931 he was appointed pastor at the Eisenach Evangelical Preachers' Seminar. For the next two years he was a study inspector there .

In 1934 he was appointed a licentiate in Protestant theology in Berlin . In that year he married Margarethe Doris (née Amersdorffer) and was appointed pastor in Marktgölitz , which he remained until 1936. In 1935 he joined the Confessing Church .

Bardtke finally wanted to do his habilitation at the University of Jena , but this was rejected because he had a negative attitude towards National Socialism . In 1936 he joined the Evangelical Saxon Church. From 1940 on he worked in Borsdorf as head of church institutions for education and nursing, which he stayed for six years. He took part in the Second World War from 1943 to 1945. He also received a parish office in Bad Lausick .

In 1948 Bardtke was appointed professor with a full teaching assignment for Old Testament science at the theological faculty of Leipzig University. From 1955 he held the chair of Old Testament science as the successor to Albrecht Alt . Also that year he got a position as dean of the theological faculty, which he held for ten years. In 1956 he received from the University of Rostock , the honorary doctorate . He also taught at the theological seminary in Leipzig . In 1969 he was appointed full professor of the Old Testament. He held this position until 1972.

In addition to his academic career, he was Canon of Meissen . He was also engaged in fine arts and was friends with the painter Elisabeth Voigt . He died on March 8, 1975 in Leipzig.

Bardtke published many articles, including works on children's worship . He was also one of the first Europeans to research and interpret Qumran . So he translated Qumran texts. He studied the image of man in the Bible.
