Marktgölitz is located in the Thuringian Slate Mountains and is a district of Probstzella in the administrative community of Slate Mountains in the Saalfeld-Rudolstadt district in Thuringia .

history

The beginning of the settlement in the Marktgölitz area is believed to be in the 12th century. It was first mentioned in documents in 1337. In 1412 the place received brewing rights and market rights . The church was built in 1733 and a new school in 1891. In 1911 large parts of the village were destroyed by a major fire.

In 1952, the FDGB initiated the creation of accommodation as a holiday home. As a result, a swimming pool was built in 1953 and the first kindergarten was opened. Since 1961 Marktgölitz was part of the restricted area of the GDR . In April / May 1968, while trying to escape, a man near Marktgölitz was shot dead by GDR border guards. Marktgölitz has been part of Probstzella since March 16, 2004 .

The coat of arms was approved on October 4, 1995 by the Thuringian State Administration Office.

Blazon : "Divided by a green bar covered with a silver wavy bar and half-split, above in gold a rising black, gold-armored lion, below in front in black silver crossed mallets and iron, behind in silver a green six-spoke wheel."

The coat of arms was designed by Manfred Fischer from Goßwitz .

traffic

Marktgölitz is on the Leipzig – Probstzella railway line . All trains have been passing through here without stopping since 2010. However, there are travel options from Probstzella train station, a few kilometers away, where all regional trains stop.

Marktgölitz is only a few hundred meters off the federal highway 85 .
