history

The village was first mentioned in a document in 1426. The name is derived from the rich brook with fish, they say. First the village of Stiftsdorf was the Benedictine Abbey of Saalfeld , then it was affiliated with the Graefenthal office. Since 1599 the place belonged to the territory of the Saxon duchies. The village church is said to have been built on a pilgrimage chapel. In the 19th century, the inhabitants were engaged in agriculture, animal husbandry and beekeeping. The villagers built slates in winter. Bungalows were built on the slate heaps.
