The list of the largest tin producers in 2008 shows the People's Republic of China (150,000 tons), Indonesia (100,000 tons) and Peru (38,000 tons) as the world's most important mining nations of tin ore , whose share of the 333,000 tons mined worldwide was 86.5 percent.
Large deposits exist in East and Southeast Asia (People's Republic of China, Indonesia, Malaysia, Vietnam), in South America (Peru, Bolivia, Brazil), in West and Central Africa (DR Congo, Niger, Rwanda, Nigeria) and Australia. In Europe, important mining areas are in Russia and Portugal. There were also tin ore deposits in Germany, for example in the Saxon Ore Mountains: Altenberg , Zinnwald , Ehrenfriedersdorf .
The main producers of metallurgical tin in 2007 were the People's Republic of China (151,000 tons), Indonesia (78,000 tons) and Peru (36,000 tons), which together accounted for 76.6 percent of the 346,000 tons produced worldwide. Important producers of metallurgical tin in Europe are Belgium and Russia.
Production, reserves and stock base
The production, the reserves and the stock base in tons are shown. The United States Geological Survey offers the following definition of this: The reserve base is that part of an identified resource that meets the specific minimum physical and chemical criteria for current mining and production practices, including those for grade , Quality , thickness and depth . The reserves are that part of the supply base that could be economically extracted or produced at a given time. The term does not have to mean that extraction systems are installed and working. Reserves only contain exploitable substances.
