investment

Precursor plant

The forerunner was Hunnesrück Castle , which the Counts of Dassel built in the 13th century about 2.5 km west of the Erichsburg near Dassel in the Amtsbergen . In 1521 in the Hildesheim collegiate feud of Erich I together with Heinrich the Younger von Wolfenbüttel, it was shot at with heavy artillery from the Hatop ridge and captured. From this destroyed castle only remains of walls and ramparts are left.

Erichsburg

The Erichsburg was previously protected by a wide moat and high ramparts . Next to her was an agricultural Vorwerk . The main parts of this castle have been preserved - in a poor state of restoration.

history

Duke Erich I of Braunschweig-Lüneburg no longer had the conquered and war-damaged Hunnesrück Castle repaired. Instead, he had the Erichsburg built from 1527 by 1530. It was named after the heir, who was born in 1528, later Duke Erich II. His father Erich I temporarily served as the official residence. During the construction period he lived in Hunnesrück Castle.

Duke Julius von Wolfenbüttel had the castle expanded between 1604 and 1612. Its builder was Paul Francke . As early as 1688, buildings from the first construction phase were demolished due to damage. As a result of the preliminary work for the economic maintenance of the castle, a small estate settlement developed, which, as the Erichsburg settlement, belongs to the Hunnesrück district of Dassel.

From 1891 to 1980, the Hannoversche Landeskirche leased the Erichsburg and initially maintained a seminary there , and from 1971 a leisure home.

In 1980 the castle-like complex was transferred to private ownership from the state of Lower Saxony.

Renovations and events

Renovation work has taken place in the castle in recent years, during which the chapel and a model room were completed. The upper part of the stair tower is in a poor structural condition and has had numerous repairs. The outdoor facilities with lawns, paths, old trees, moats , ponds and ramparts are in a well-tended condition (as of August 2012). At the beginning of 2014 the owner of the castle changed. The new owner wants to renovate it together with a newly founded development association and use it for historical events such as markets, weddings and jousting games . In 2016, a film for the mystery series "Haunted" of the broadcaster TLC Germany was shot at Erichsburg .
