Herbert Hoffmann (born September 21, 1912 in Görlitz , † December 7, 1992 in Teltow ) was a German politician and functionary of the GDR block party DBD . He was a member of the Thuringian Parliament and the People's Chamber of the GDR . He was regional chairman of the DBD in Thuringia and district chairman of the DBD in Potsdam .

Life

Herbert Hoffmann, son of a worker, attended elementary and high school and trained as a typesetter . He then worked in this profession. In 1935 he was drafted into the Wehrmacht for military service. After participating in the Second World War and being a prisoner of war , he became a farm worker in 1945 and, after the land reform, a new farmer in Dingsleben . From 1945 until the first local elections after the war in 1946, Herbert Hoffmann was a local representative in Dingsleben. In 1948 he co-founded the Democratic Peasant Party of Germany (DBD) and was the first regional chairman of the DBD in Thuringia from 1948 to 1950. From 1948 to 1977 Hoffmann was a member of the DBD party executive. From 1948 to 1953 he belonged to the secretariat of the party executive committee, from 1955 to 1963 to the presidium of the party executive committee of the DBD and was head of the main agricultural policy department of the party executive committee of the DBD. From 1949 to 1953 he was head of the main department in the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry of the GDR.

In 1950/51 Hoffmann was a member of the Thuringian state parliament and chairman of the committee there. From 1949 to 1963 he was a member of the German People's Council and the People's Chamber of the GDR. In the first electoral term he was a member of the Presidium and the Constitutional Committee. In the second people's chamber he was a member of the committee for agriculture and forestry and from 1959 to 1963 chairman of the committee for agriculture and forestry of the people's chamber.

From 1957 Hoffmann was a member of the central board and the presidium of the central board of the Association of Mutual Farmers Aid (VdgB). From 1962 to 1970 Hoffmann acted as chairman of the Potsdam district board of the DBD.
