Gertrud Sasse , née Gertrud Wodtke , (* February 24, 1902 in Berlin ; † August 13, 1994 in Halle (Saale) ) was a German functionary of the GDR bloc party LDPD and one of the longest serving members of the People's Chamber of the GDR .

Life

Gertrud Sasse was born under the name Gertrud Wodtke as the daughter of a postal worker. After attending the Lyceum and Oberlyzeum, she passed her Abitur in 1921. After she graduated from the higher teachers' seminar in 1922 and 1923, she initially worked as chief secretary in Berlin in 1923 and 1924. She then worked as a teacher in Belzig until 1925 before, after her marriage, she worked as a private teacher for foreign languages ​​in Wernigerode until 1933 . During the National Socialist era , Gertrud Sasse was banned from working and lived as a housewife until the end of the war.

After the Second World War, Gertrud Sasse found a job as a teacher at the Wernigerode Gerhart Hauptmann School. After some time, she was also appointed deputy director there. In 1950 Sasse moved to Halle (Saale), where she took over the position of director of the Adolf-Reichwein-Oberschule until 1958. From now on Halle should be her place of residence. Already politically active in the LDPD as a functionary and member of the People's Chamber, in 1959 she took over the full-time position of chairwoman of the LDPD district association in Halle for two years. In 1961 she moved to the Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg , initially as a research assistant in the Educational Sciences section. In 1962 she was appointed professor. Gertrud Sasse stayed at the university until she retired.

politics

Until 1945 nothing is known about Gertrud Sasse's political activities. After the end of the war she became a member of the newly founded LDP in Wernigerode . At the same time she became involved in the mass organizations FDGB and Kulturbund from 1946 , of which she was the first district chairman in the Wernigerode district from 1945 to 1949. In 1947 she joined the DFD and the Society for German-Soviet Friendship (DSF). Between 1950 and 1952 Sasse represented the LDPD in the state parliament of Saxony-Anhalt as a member of parliament. After the dissolution of the Diet, it was on August 1, 1952 on the constitution of the District Day Hall as a member of the Council of the district selected. Until 1954 she represented her party in the Halle district assembly. This parliamentary activity went hand in hand with higher party offices. From 1950 to 1952 she acted as deputy chairwoman of the LDPD regional association Saxony-Anhalt. After its dissolution, she took over the chairmanship of the LDPD district association in Halle until 1961, most recently full-time. In 1961, Sasse then moved to Berlin for party politics. Until 1990 she was a member of the political committee of the LDPD central board. As early as 1949, however, Sasse was also active for her party across the region. She became a member of the provisional People's Chamber of the GDR. Gertrud Sasse continued this parliamentary activity for over 40 years. Only after the end of the 9th electoral term on March 17, 1990 did she end her parliamentary career. Furthermore, she worked for over 40 years in high honorary positions for the Kulturbund der DDR. For 30 years she was chairwoman of the Halle district management of the Kulturbund from 1952 to 1982. On her 80th birthday, she was appointed honorary president of the Halle district management. In her function as a long-time Kulturbund functionary in the Halle district, she also served as Vice President of the Kulturbund of the GDR from 1950 to 1986. In 1986 she was made honorary president of the Kulturbund.

In the course of her career, Sasse received a number of medals and state awards from the GDR, including the Patriotic Order of Merit (1954 in silver, 1970 in gold, 1972 honor bar) and the Star of Friendship of Nations (1977 in silver, 1982 in gold). In 1965 he was awarded the Handel Prize of the Halle district .

After the political change in the GDR, Gertrud Sasse became a member of the BFD in the run-up to the first free Volkskammer elections . From August 11, 1990, she was last member of the FDP by joining the LDPD , which she remained until her death.
