The Bidar Airport (Kannada: ಬೀದರ್ ವಿಮಾನ ನಿಲ್ದಾಣ) ( IATA code: none ICAO code: Vobr) is an airport located in India . It is located near Bidar in the northeast of the state of Karnataka . A civil joint use of the previous military airfield , the Bidar Air Force Station , is planned.

Military use

The history of military flight operations goes back to the time of the Second World War.

The Indian Air Force has been using Bidar as their main training base for high-speed jet fighter pilots since the early 1960s. Advantages of Bidars are a certain distance to the major commercial airports and the associated available airspace; the number of flight movements on training grounds is usually significantly higher than on deployment sites. The weather is also more consistent inland and at over 600 m above sea level than on the coasts of the Indian Ocean.

She operates her Hawk Mk.132 trainers here, with which (as of 2011) two operational training squadrons are equipped. In parallel with the influx of the Hawks, which began in 2007, the airport was expanded and modernized, including extending the runways to 9,000 feet. In addition to the Hawks, older Kiran trainers are stationed here today (2011).
