Marcelo Silva , full name Marcelo Andrés Silva Fernández , (born March 21, 1989 in Mercedes or Fray Bentos ) is a Uruguayan football player .

Career

society

Silva, who plays in the position of a central defender and is characterized in particular by his headball strength and aggressive style of play, was in the ranks of Danubio FC from 2007 to 2010 in the Uruguayan Primera División . There he was also used at international club level in a game of the Copa Libertadores 2008 and has also played 27 league games (three goals) since Apertura 2008, in which he was not part of the starting line-up in only two games. In July 2010 he moved to Spain to UD Almería . There was a transfer fee of two million euros. There he was also regularly used in the Primera División and played 21 games (one goal), in which he was also in the starting lineup. However, he lost his regular place after Almería's relegation to the Segunda División and only completed two more games for the Spaniards. In addition, his coach there, Lucas Alcaraz , declared that he would no longer rely on him and gave him permission to change clubs. So it stayed with the previous league appearances and his participation in eight games of the Copa del Rey . First, according to media reports, Silva was offered to Nacional Montevideo . However, the Uruguayan club showed no interest in transferring the player. On February 3, 2012, then confirmed Peñarol's club president Juan Pedro Damiani that Marcelo Silva was signed by Peñarol as a new signing on loan. For the 2012/13 season he returned to the lending club in Spain. There he played 20 games in the Liga Adelante and scored one goal. He was in the starting line-up 19 times and was a regular from December 2012 until matchday 36. As a result, Silva paused because of an operation after a broken wrist. His club rose at the end of the season. In the Primera División season 2013/14 he did not get beyond the role of substitute player and only played two other league games. His last assignment for Almería was dated April 4, 2014. For the 2014/15 season, he joined UD Las Palmas . In the 2014/15 season he was used 23 times (one goal) in the Liga Adelante and four times (one goal) in the Copa del Rey. In July 2015, after the rise of UD Las Palmas, he moved to the second division Real Valladolid , for whom he played 31 second division games (one goal) and one cup game (no goal) in the 2015/16 season. He joined Real Zaragoza in early July 2016 . In the 2016/17 season he was used 35 times in the league and scored one goal. In mid-July 2017, the American MLS club Real Salt Lake signed him , for whom he has so far (as of August 6, 2017) played three times (no goal) in the league.

National team

Marcelo Silva was a member of Uruguay's U-20s in 2009 and was part of the squad for the Campeonato Sudamericano Sub-20 "Juventud de América" held in January of that year . He also took part in the 2009 U-20 World Cup in Egypt. During the tournament he was used in the three games against the national teams of Brazil , Uzbekistan and England . For the 2012 Summer Olympics , he was in a 32-strong preselection list of Uruguayan national coach Óscar Tabárez . In the end, however, it was not taken into account.
