Gerry Kley
Gerry Kley (born May 10, 1960 in Eisenach , † April 14, 2021 in Halle (Saale ) ) was a German politician ( FDP ). From 2006 to 2011 he was Chairman of the Environment Committee of the State Parliament of Saxony-Anhalt and from 2002 to 2006 Minister for Health and Social Affairs of the State of Saxony-Anhalt .
Life and work
After attending the Polytechnic Oberschule (POS) and the Extended Oberschule (EOS) in Eisenach, Kley passed his Abitur in 1978 . After completing his military service with the NVA , he studied biology at the Martin Luther University in Halle-Wittenberg from 1981 , which he completed in 1986 as a qualified biologist. Then he was an aspirant in the genetics department of the Martin Luther University until 1990 . Kley was managing director of Umwelt-Consult from 1994 to 2002 and again since 2006 .
Gerry Kley died in mid-April 2021 at the age of 60. He was married and had two sons.
Political career
Political party
As part of the Peaceful Revolution in 1989, Kley joined the Liberal Democratic Party of Germany ( LDPD ), which became part of the FDP in 1990. Kley was chairman of the FDP district association in Halle and a member of the FDP federal executive committee. He was also a co-opted member of the federal board of the Association of Liberal Local Politicians (VLK) and chairman of the VLK regional association of Saxony-Anhalt. Until 1995 he was state chairman of the Young Liberals Saxony-Anhalt. Since 2000 he has been chairman of the Association of Liberal Local Politicians in Saxony-Anhalt.
MP
From March to October 1990 Kley belonged to the first freely elected People's Chamber of the GDR for constituency 07 (Halle) and on October 3, 1990, he became a member of the German Bundestag , to which he then belonged until December 1990.
From 1990 to 1994 and again from 2002 to 2011 he was a member of the state parliament of Saxony-Anhalt . From 2006 to 2011 he was chairman of the environmental committee. He was also the spokesman for education and the environment for the FDP parliamentary group.
From 1994 to 2002 Kley belonged to the city council of Halle (Saale) and was chairman of the FDP parliamentary group there from 1999 to 2002 .
Public Offices
On May 16, 2002, he was appointed Minister for Health and Social Affairs in the state government of Saxony-Anhalt led by Prime Minister Wolfgang Böhmer . After the CDU-FDP coalition had lost its majority in the state elections in 2006 and instead a black-red coalition was formed, Kley left office on April 24, 2006.
Other offices
From 2006 Gerry Kley was chairman of the Athletics Association of Saxony-Anhalt and from 2009 to 2015 a member of the board of the Federal Foundation for coming to terms with the SED dictatorship .
