Gerlinde Kuppe (born October 19, 1945 in Görlitz ) is a German politician ( SPD ). She was a member of the state parliament from 1990 to 2011 , and from 1994 to 2002 and again from 2006 to 2009 a member of the state government of Saxony-Anhalt .

Life

Family, education and work

After graduating from a secondary school in 1964 , Kuppe studied chemistry at the Martin Luther University in Halle-Wittenberg , which she completed in 1969 as a graduate chemist. After her doctorate in 1972 as Dr. rer. nat. she worked as a research assistant at the Biochemical Institute of the University of Halle-Wittenberg. She then worked until 1978 as a research assistant at VEB Rationalisierung in Halle . In 1978 she moved to the Halle / Saale University Hospital as laboratory manager and also completed a postgraduate course in medicine as a chemist . 1991 habilitation them with the work The importance clinically-neurochemical and -immunologischer studies in diseases of the nervous system .

Kuppe is widowed and has three children. She was married to her husband Karl-Rainer Kuppe (* February 24, 1946 in Gimritz ; † September 4, 2010 in Halle (Saale)) for 37 years.

politics

In 1989 she joined the Social Democratic Party of the GDR (SDP). She is a member of the SPD state executive committee of Saxony-Anhalt.

From March to October 1990 Gerlinde Kuppe belonged to the first freely elected People's Chamber in the GDR .

From 1990 to 2011 she was a member of the state parliament of Saxony-Anhalt. From 2002 to 2006 she was spokeswoman for health and science policy for the SPD parliamentary group .

Public offices

After the so-called Magdeburg model was established after the 1994 state elections , Kuppe was appointed Minister for Labor, Social Affairs and Health to the state government of Saxony-Anhalt led by Reinhard Höppner ( Höppner I cabinet ) on July 21, 1994 . After the state elections in 1998, the competencies of her ministry were expanded and she was therefore minister for labor, women, health and social affairs and deputy to the prime minister ( Höppner II cabinet ) from May 26, 1998 . Since the Magdeburg model had lost its majority in the state elections, Kuppe resigned from her offices on May 16, 2002.

After the state elections in 2006, a black-red coalition was formed in Saxony-Anhalt and Gerlinde Kuppe was appointed Minister for Health and Social Affairs to the state government headed by Prime Minister Wolfgang Böhmer ( CDU ) on April 24, 2006 ( Böhmer II cabinet ). She resigned from office in December 2009 after the health of her husband, who suffered from severe diabetes , deteriorated markedly.
