Norbert Bischoff (born December 20, 1950 in Helbra ) is a German politician ( SPD ). From 1994 to 2016 he was a member of the state parliament of Saxony-Anhalt . From January 2010 to May 2016 he was a member of the local government and from 2011 to 2016 he was the minister for labor and social affairs.

Life and work

After graduating from the polytechnic high school in 1967, he began vocational training with a high school diploma as an electrician in Eisleben . In 1970, Bischoff began studying theology in Erfurt , which he completed in 1976 as a graduate theologian . He then worked as a pastoral consultant in Stendal . From 1982 to 1990 he was an advisor in the church service in Magdeburg . 1991/1992 he acted as head of department in the Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs of Saxony-Anhalt. From 1992 to 1993 he was head of the press office in the diocese of Magdeburg until he became an advisor to the SPD parliamentary group in 1994.

Norbert Bischoff is divorced twice and has four children. He has lived in Halle since mid-2015. He has been married to Birke Bull since 2016 .

In 1990, Bischoff joined the SPD. From 2001 to 2010 he was chairman of the SPD city association of Magdeburg. From 1999 to 2009 and from 2014 to 2015 he was Magdeburg City Councilor.

From 1994 Bischoff was a member of the state parliament of Saxony-Anhalt. From 1998 to 2002 he was deputy chairman of the SPD parliamentary group . From 2004 he was Parliamentary Managing Director of the SPD parliamentary group.

He was a member of the Council of Elders and the Committee on Federal and European Affairs and the Media. From 1999 until the local elections in 2009, he was also a member of Magdeburg's city council. With the resignation of Gerlinde Kuppe as Minister for Health and Social Affairs in December 2009, Bischoff took over the Ministry on January 1, 2010 ( Böhmer II cabinet ). In the state elections in Saxony-Anhalt in 2011 , he was re-elected to the state parliament via the state list. In the course of the formation of the government, Bischoff took over the office of Minister for Labor and Social Affairs in the Haseloff I cabinet . With the state elections in Saxony-Anhalt in 2016 , Bischoff withdrew from politics; he resigned from the state parliament and no longer belongs to the state government ( Haseloff II cabinet ).

In September 2015 it became known that Bischoff had a program of the radio station Radio SAW financed from tax revenues in July 2012. In the show, Bischoff was interviewed in detail. There was no reference to the state funding of the programs. The Sachsen-Anhalt media authority is examining the process.
