Birke Bull-Bischoff (born November 9, 1963 in Weißenfels ) is a German politician ( PDS , Die Linke ). From 1999 to 2017 she was a member of the state parliament of Saxony-Anhalt and from 2012 to 2017 state chairwoman of the party Die Linke Sachsen-Anhalt . She was elected to the German Bundestag on September 24, 2017 .

Life and work

After attending a polytechnic high school from 1970 to 1980, Bull-Bischoff completed a degree as a lower-level teacher at an institute for teacher training by 1984 . Afterwards she worked as a teacher, among other things for music, at the POS Erich Weinert in Halle . From 1987 to 1989 she worked in the FDJ district management in Halle. After the fall of the Wall , she worked in a student leisure center in Halle until 1992. From 1990 to 1994 she worked as a music school teacher at the Georg-Friedrich-Handel Conservatory in Halle.

Bull-Bischoff graduated from 2003 to 2007 with a degree in sociology and pedagogy at Otto von Guericke University Magdeburg . From 2007 to 2012 she was chairwoman of Lebenshilfe Sachsen-Anhalt.

Birke Bull-Bischoff has been married to Norbert Bischoff for the second time since October 2016 and has one child.

Bull-Bischoff joined the SED in 1982 and became a member of the PDS in 1990. From 1993 to 1995 she was a member of the PDS city council in Halle, was elected to the state executive committee of the PDS Saxony-Anhalt in 1999 and was deputy state chairman of the party from 2002. After the election of party chairman Matthias Höhn as federal managing director, she was elected state chairman of the party Die Linke in 2012. She held this position until May 2017.

MPs

For the PDS, she entered the state parliament of Saxony-Anhalt for the first time in 1994 ( 2nd electoral period ) . From April 1999 she was deputy chairwoman of the PDS and later the left parliamentary group and member of the social committee. In the 7th electoral term she was a member of the Committee on Education and Culture. Since the 19th electoral term, Bull-Bischoff has been the chairwoman of project group 6 of the Vocational Education Study and chair of the “Vocational Education” study commission. Bull-Bischoff is also a full member of the Committee for Education, Research and Technology Assessment , as well as the Board of Trustees of the Federal Agency for Civic Education . As a deputy member, she is involved in the budget committee and in the committee for family, senior citizens, women and youth .

She was elected to third place on the state list of the Left in Saxony-Anhalt for the 2017 federal election.
