history

In 1992 the license for two nationwide radio programs was tendered by the responsible state media authority (MSA). One of the two licenses went to the newly founded VMG. The main shareholder was the Oldenburger Nordwest-Zeitung . The first "Funkhaus" was an old wallpaper factory in Magdeburg on Diesdorfer Straße. In 1995 the company moved to a new broadcasting facility in the Hansapark in Magdeburg. At the same time, the previous analog transmission technology was switched to digital systems. In 1997 radio SAW broadcast one of the first live streams of a radio program in Germany.

In addition to the entertainment program that was and is produced in Magdeburg , great importance was attached to regional reporting in the first few years and regional studios were created in Halberstadt , Dessau and Halle . Overall, radio SAW has a large transmission area, from Salzwedel to Naumburg, from Magdeburg to Leipzig , from Dessau to Halle. Thanks to the very powerful Brocken transmitter, the station can also be received well in the neighboring federal states, especially in eastern Lower Saxony, northern Thuringia, western Saxony and western Brandenburg.

In 2007 radio SAW launched the online music platform SAW-Musikwelt . In addition to the programs radio SAW, ROCKLAND and 1A Deutsche Hits , the station offers 14 special interest web radio as a live stream . This includes classic music themes such as the 80s, 90s or 70s as well as party music and rock genres. A stream with Christmas music has also been new since 2018.

In October 2017 the popular, long-time presenter Holger Tapper returned to the station after having worked for the competitor "Radio Brocken" in Halle for 8 years. Together with his colleagues Nadine Rathke and weatherman Frank Abel, he moderates the morning show "Muckefuck".

In addition to a selection of songs from the current charts, songs from the 1980s and 1990s, predominantly from the fields of pop and rock, are played.
