Cabinet Böhmer II
The Böhmer II cabinet formed the state government of Saxony-Anhalt from 2006 to 2011 . Since the election period of the state parliament was extended from four to five years with an amendment to the constitution of the state of Saxony-Anhalt in 2005 , the state government, corresponding to the 5th legislative period of the state parliament, was in office longer than any previous cabinet since 1990.
The election for the 5th state parliament of Saxony-Anhalt on March 26, 2006 brought the FDP , which had previously been a “junior partner”, a significant loss of votes of 6.4 percentage points , so that they were no longer eligible for participation in the government. The CDU with Minister President Wolfgang Böhmer , who has been in office since 2002, formed a new coalition with the third-placed SPD and its top candidate Jens Bullerjahn , who was appointed Finance Minister and Deputy Prime Minister after the election . Together, the government alliance had 64 of the 97 seats in the state parliament; “ Die Linke ” ( represented in parliament until 2005 under the name Party of Democratic Socialism ) and the FDP formed the opposition .
In the constituent session of the 5th State Parliament of Saxony-Anhalt on April 24, 2006, the MPs again elected Wolfgang Böhmer as Prime Minister. He received 60 votes, 35 MPs voted against him and one member of the state parliament abstained. The cabinet appointed by Böhmer was then sworn in before the state parliament.
The coalition of CDU and SPD continued beyond the following state elections in 2011 . Since Prime Minister Wolfgang Böhmer announced at an early stage that he would withdraw from politics for reasons of age - he was 75 years old at the time of the election date - the CDU Saxony-Anhalt established the Minister of Economic Affairs Reiner Haseloff as his successor and top candidate for the 2011 election. When the Haseloff I cabinet took office on April 19, 2011, the term of office of the state government led by Böhmer ended.
