Winfried Willems

Winfried Willems (born March 22, 1949 in Griethausen ) is a German political official . From 2002 to 2011 he was State Secretary in the Ministry of Culture of the State of Saxony-Anhalt .

Life and work

Willems attended elementary school in Griethausen and the Staatliche Altsprachliche Gymnasium in Kleve , where he passed the Abitur examination in 1968. After completing his military service in Wesel , he studied Catholic theology, German and pedagogy at the Westphalian Wilhelms University in Münster from 1970 to 1975 . From 1974 to 1976 he also studied music education at the University of Education and musicology at the University of Münster.

As early as 1975 Willems completed his trainee service for teaching at grammar schools. After completing the state examinations in 1977 he became a student councilor and senior teacher at the Episcopal Gymnasium in Ahlen . From 1982 to 1993 he was a senior teacher at the Freiherr-vom-Stein-Gymnasium in Kleve, at the same time he was active as an organist and choirmaster in St. Mary's Conception, Kleve. He then moved to Saxony-Anhalt and became senior director of studies at the Ecumenical Cathedral High School in Magdeburg. Here he took on the role of headmaster with managerial tasks until his appointment as State Secretary.

Winfried Willems is of Roman Catholic denomination, married to Kornelie Wahner-Willems, and has five children.

On May 22, 2002, Willems was appointed State Secretary in the Ministry of Culture of Saxony-Anhalt. Willems was head of office and state secretary of education at the Ministry of Culture, while the areas of science and culture are subordinate to Valentin Gramlich . When Haseloff I took office in April 2011, Willems was put into temporary retirement.

Cultural engagement

After 2011, Willems was President of the State Music Council of Saxony-Anhalt for several years . During this time he gave several lectures at home and abroad on fundamental questions of education and education policy, on basic ethical and religious questions as well as on religious and constitutional issues.

Since 2013 Willems has been artistic and organizational director of the concert series “Orgelpunkt” in Magdeburg Cathedral and also chairman of the “Magdeburg Organ Music” association. He also works as an organist in Magdeburg.
