Hermann Onko Aeikens
Hermann Onko Aeikens (born September 21, 1951 in Weener in the district of Leer in East Frisia ) is a German agronomist and politician ( CDU ). From September 2016 to December 2019 he was State Secretary in the Federal Ministry of Food and Agriculture .
Life
Aeikens studied agricultural sciences at the Georg-August-Universität Göttingen and received his doctorate there with the thesis The milk market of the 80s . He also studied economics at the University of California at Berkeley , USA. He then worked for several years in academic activity at the Institute for Agricultural Economics at the University of Göttingen.
In 1981 Aeikens moved to the Lower Saxony state administration, where he held various positions in the Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Forests, as well as in the Ministry for Federal Council Affairs in Hanover , at the Lower Saxony State Representation in Bonn and in the joint EU office of the states of Lower Saxony , Hamburg and Schleswig-Holstein active in Brussels . From May 2002 to October 2009 Aeikens was State Secretary in the Ministry for Agriculture and Environment in Saxony-Anhalt.
After Petra Wernicke's resignation due to health reasons , Hermann Onko Aeikens became Minister for Agriculture and Environment of Saxony-Anhalt in the Böhmer II cabinet on October 13, 2009 . After the state elections in 2011 , he remained minister in Haseloff I's cabinet for the following period until 2016 .
In 2010, on the initiative of Hermann Aeikens, 40 million euros in funding for flood protection, faster internet access and village beautification programs were approved.
From May 2015 to May 2016, as a member of the state government, he was also a full member of the Commission for the Storage of Highly Radioactive Waste (Repository Commission) in accordance with Section 3 of the Site Selection Act . From October 13, 2009 to April 25, 2016 he was Minister for Agriculture and the Environment of Saxony-Anhalt .
