Rainer Robra

Rainer Robra (born October 15, 1951 in Nienhof , Celle district ) is a German lawyer and politician ( CDU ). Since 2002 he has been Minister of State and Head of the State Chancellery as well as Minister for Europe. Since 2016 he has also been Minister of Culture for the State of Saxony-Anhalt .

Life

Education and professional activity

Rainer Robra studied law in Göttingen and Hamburg . After the second state examination in 1979, he worked as a judge in Hanover , then as a public prosecutor in Celle. In 1986 he moved to the Lower Saxony Ministry of Justice , where he was most recently head of the criminal law department as ministerial director. From November 1990 to October 1994 he was State Secretary of Justice in Saxony-Anhalt, from 1994 to 2002 he was a lawyer (founding member of the Remmers-Robra-Meyer law firm); since 2002 he has been Minister of State and Head of the State Chancellery of Saxony-Anhalt and Minister of Europe. Robra has also been Minister of Culture since 2016.

Political career and political offices

Robra is a CDU member. From 1990 to 1994 he was State Secretary of Justice in the CDU / FDP state government of Saxony-Anhalt, and briefly in the Höppner I cabinet . In this role, he played a key role in rebuilding the judiciary in Saxony-Anhalt. Since the change of government in 2002 from an SPD minority government to a CDU / FDP coalition in Saxony-Anhalt, Robra has been Minister of State and Head of the State Chancellery. He is responsible for the coordination within the state government.

Since the change of government in 2016, he has also been Minister of Culture. By taking over this role, he is Chairman of the Board of the Cultural Foundation Dessau-Wörlitz , Chairman of the Trustees of the Luther Memorials Foundation of Saxony-Anhalt , chairman of the Bauhaus Dessau Foundation , Chairman of the Trustees of the Art Foundation of Saxony-Anhalt . Furthermore, since 2017 he has been chairman of the board of trustees of the Kloster Unser Lieben Frauen and Kloster Bergesche Foundation as well as deputy chairman of the board of trustees of the German Center for Cultural Property Loss Foundation . He is also each member of the board of the Prussian Cultural Heritage Foundation , the German Federal Cultural Foundation and the Cultural Foundation of the countries as well as the Board of Trustees of the Cultural Foundation Nord / LB.

He is also responsible for federal and European affairs as well as the media policy of the state of Saxony-Anhalt. Robra has been a member of the Federal Council for the State of Saxony-Anhalt since May 2002 and a member of the committee for questions relating to the European Union. As a member of the Federal Council, he is a member of the Political Committee and the NATO Partnerships subcommittee of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly and the Conference of European Committees COSAC. He was a member of the NATO Partnership Subcommittee of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly from 2011 to 2016.

The CDU politician has been a member of the ZDF television council since June 21, 2002 . He advocates a far-reaching reform of public service broadcasting . In October 2017 Robra made a proposal to the Mitteldeutsche Zeitung to align ARD with regional television programs. The proposal quickly met with opposition from politics and the media. The head of the Berlin State Chancellery Björn Böhning was reminded of a ZDF in Adenauer's time . In the meantime, Robra has supplemented and specified his suggestions in a series of interviews. In 2012, Robra was sent by ZDF to the 18-member program advisory board of Arte Deutschland TV GmbH.

Other engagement

Robra is managing director of the 'Stiftung Rechtsstaat Sachsen-Anhalt eV' and was chairman of the Saxony-Anhalt regional association of free criminal assistance until 2017. He was also chairman of the St. Martin zu Spielberg church building association until 2017. From 1992 to 2002 Robra was a member of the permanent deputation of the German Juristentag and chairman of the criminal law department. Robra is chairman of the supervisory board of the state winery Kloster Pforta GmbH and since March 2018 also chairman of the supervisory board of Mitteldeutsche Medienförderung GmbH.

For his services to Franco-German cooperation, Robra was made a Knight of the French Legion of Honor on January 15, 2020 .

Private

Robra is married and has three children. He lives with his wife in Magdeburg .
