Heike Raab (born April 8, 1965 in Cochem ) is a German politician ( SPD ) and State Secretary as well as a member of the European Committee of the Regions .

Professional background

In 1984 Raab graduated from high school in Koblenz and trained as a physiotherapist at RWTH Aachen University . From 1988 to 1992 she studied political science, public law and Spanish at the Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität Bonn and graduated with a Magister Artium . During a stay abroad in Madrid at the Instituto de Relaciones Europeo-Latinoamericanas , she worked on economic relations between the EU and Latin America.

Political career

In 1989 Raab joined the SPD and became a member of the district executive committee in Cochem-Zell, of which she is now deputy chairwoman. After working as a research assistant at the German Bundestag, in 1993 she became the personal assistant to the Rhineland-Palatinate Prime Minister Rudolf Scharping . From 1994 to 1998 she worked in this position and as a consultant for SME policy in the SPD parliamentary group. From 1999 to 2001 she was head of the department for economic relations in the State Chancellery of Rhineland-Palatinate. Also in 1999, Raab ran as district administrator in Cochem-Zell, with 48.5% she just missed the election victory. In 2000 she was elected chairwoman of the SPD sub-district of Cochem-Zell. From 2001 to 2011 she was a member of the state parliament of Rhineland-Palatinate through the state list of the SPD . From 2001 to 2006 she was media policy spokeswoman for the SPD parliamentary group. In 2004 she became a member of the district council in Cochem-Zell and chairman of the SPD parliamentary group. From May 2006 to 2011 Raab was General Secretary of the SPD Rhineland-Palatinate . She has been a member of the European Committee of the Regions since November 17, 2015. Since 2018, together with Carsten Brosda, she has been chairman of the media and network policy commission of the SPD party executive.

State government

After the state elections in 2011 , Raab became State Secretary in the Ministry of the Interior, for Sport and Infrastructure Rhineland-Palatinate (ISIM) and IT representative of the state government, CIO and in this function a member of the IT planning council . She was responsible for the interior and permanent representative of the minister in the interior ministers' conference .

For four years she was chairwoman of the Atlantic Academy based in Kaiserslautern.

On July 1, 2015, she was appointed to the State Chancellery as the successor to Jacqueline Kraege as authorized representative for the federal government and for Europe, media and digital. In this function she coordinates the broadcasting commission of the federal states for the chairwoman, Prime Minister Malu Dreyer . In addition, she is a member of the advisory board of the Federal Network Agency and the television council of ZDF . On July 1, 2019, she took over the chairmanship of the European Ministers' Conference of the Länder for one year .

Private life

Raab has two children.
