Jacqueline Kraege (born May 21, 1960 in Munich ; † April 29, 2020 ) was a German political official . From 2013 to July 1, 2015, she was State Secretary in the State Chancellery in Rhineland-Palatinate, until November 2014 as Head of the State Chancellery under Prime Minister Malu Dreyer .

Life and work

After graduating from high school in Sankt Augustin in 1979 , Kraege studied comparative literature, German, Spanish philology, art history and political science at the University of Bonn . In 1989/90 she passed her master's degree there.

At the same time she worked from 1986 to 1990 as a project assistant at the SPD- affiliated Friedrich Ebert Foundation . From 1988 to 1989 she also worked as a lecturer at the Willi-Eichler-Bildungswerk, named after Willi Eichler . In 1990/91 she was the coordinator of the regional conference “Progress '90” at the SPD federal executive committee, and in 1991/1992 she was the office manager of the Bundestag member Christoph Zöpel (SPD).

In 1992 she joined the state administration of Rhineland-Palatinate, where she took on tasks with increasing responsibility in the following years: she was a consultant until 1995, then until 2001 head of department in the state chancellery . From 2001 to 2002, she headed the office of Prime Minister Kurt Beck (SPD), after which she was responsible for departmental coordination and government planning at the State Chancellery until her appointment as State Secretary.

On February 25, 2005, Kraege was appointed as the successor to Hendrik Hering as State Secretary in the Ministry for Environment and Forests led by Margit Conrad (SPD) (since May 18, 2006 Ministry for Environment, Forests and Consumer Protection) Rhineland-Palatinate. Since May 18, 2011, she has succeeded Christoph Habermann as State Secretary in the Ministry of Social Affairs, Labor, Health and Demography of the State of Rhineland-Palatinate under Malu Dreyer.

When she moved to the Dreyer I cabinet , she was appointed head of the state chancellery with the rank of state secretary on January 16, 2013. She was the first woman in this office. In the course of an extensive cabinet reshuffle, she lost the management of the State Chancellery on November 12, 2014 and succeeded Margit Conrad , then Minister, State Secretary for Federal and European Affairs in the State Chancellery. Then there were the areas of media and digital. On July 1, 2015, she was retired for health reasons, her successor was Heike Raab .
