Life

Hilf was born in Niederlahnstein in 1931 as the son of a retail salesman. In 1948 he joined the Junge Union. After graduating from high school, he studied law at the University of Mainz and at the University of Administrative Sciences in Speyer.

From 1959 to 1969 he was the parliamentary manager of the Rhineland-Palatinate CDU parliamentary group. From 1963 to 1969 and for a short time in 1971 and 1975, the lawyer was a member of the Rhineland-Palatinate state parliament for the CDU and from 1969 to 1976 as State Secretary, head of the State Chancellery in Mainz. He was a close confidante of Helmut Kohl .

Because of its sometimes pastoral nature, scoffers called the SWF broadcasting house during his tenure as the "Willibald-Hilf-Cathedral St. Megaherz".

The Franco-German culture channel ARTE was co-designed by Hilf. Hilf was instrumental in removing Franz Alt as moderator and head of the political magazine Report Mainz .

Help was the godfather of Peter Kohl (entrepreneur) , the youngest son of Helmut Kohl.
